This week, Region 7, the Northeast Regional De-escalation Training Center at the University of New Haven completed a five-day Train-the-Trainer de-escalation training session at the Westchester County Police Academy(WCPA) in New York. This was the seventh de-escalation training session scheduled at the WCPA. Those in attendance were active law enforcement officers from agencies in New York which included Briarcliff Manor, CUNY Bronx Community College, Village of Ossining, the town of Mamaroneck and the Westchester County Probation Department. Instructors for this session were Senior Investigator (ret.) Joseph Auriemma, Jr. (INCI, CFI) from the New York State Police Department and?Captain (ret.) Joseph Witkowski, (INCI) from the New Haven, Connecticut Police Department. I would like to thank Commissioner Terrance Raynor and Lieutenant Nicholas Alongi?of the Westchester County?Department of Public Safety for making another training in this area possible. These de-escalation trainings are provided at no cost to any law enforcement agency in the Northeast due to grant funding provided by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) through the Department of Justice (DOJ).
