During the September 2024 National Indian Country Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, participants were given the opportunity to surround themselves in education about Native American culture. During the conference, there were several speakers who shared their expertise in their respective fields as outlined in the attached agenda. In the fall of 2023, the District of North Dakota hosted a national conference to to reinvigorate best practices in Indian Country. The event was attended by numerous districts and partnerships. This week those efforts are continued by Chief Ron Travers and the District of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Congratulations to our newest officer in North Dakota! Crystal Towers was sworn in this week and will be assigned to our presentence unit in Bismarck. Crytal comes to us from the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation where she was employed as a Community Corrections Case Manager for the Jamestown Office since February 2021.? Prior to that Crystal was employed as a Graduate Assistant in the Criminal Justice Program at North Dakota State University.? She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice; and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration; all acquired from the Great North Dakota State University.? Ms. Towers is named in numerous research projects and publications noteworthy of her work while at NDSU.? Also noteworthy is her organizing of events and volunteer work in the community.?
