Notre Dame Law School (NDLS) Moot Court Board provides an opportunity for students to develop their research, writing, and oral appellate advocacy skills. The student-run Moot Court program also hosts the annual Notre Dame National Appellate Advocacy Tournament for Religious Freedom. The Board is comprised of five teams (Showcase, 7th Circuit, ABA, IP, and Jessup) that represent NDLS by competing in appellate and international competitions. These competitions include the National Moot Court competition, the American Bar Association competition, the Jessup International Law Moot Court competition, and the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court competition. Additionally, the 7th Circuit team argues real cases in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the Showcase team performs a showcase argument in front of a panel of distinguished judges for the NDLS community. The Board encourages any interested parties to learn more about NDLS Moot Court and the Religious Freedom Tournament!

The Notre Dame Law School Moot Court Board is thrilled to announce the newest 2L members of the team! Please join us in congratulating the following 19 oralists and 6 brief writers on being selected out of over 180 combined applications. In the fall, each of our new teammates will be placed on one of our five competition teams to begin preparing for oral advocacy competitions worldwide. Our Oralist and Brief Writer Selection Committees had a tremendously difficult time scoring all of the submissions we received, and we are incredibly excited to welcome our new team members.

After the conclusion of the largest and most competitive 1L tournament in the history of the Moot Court Board, many congratulations are in order! First and foremost, to the team of Alesis Juntunen and Mariko Jurcsak for winning the tournament. Their fierce representation of the petitioner before a tough panel of judges has earned them the crown and guaranteed oralist spots on next year's board. Next, congratulations to their opponents, the team of Gabriel Powell and Thomas Macphee, for a truly excellent performance and winning second place overall. It was an incredibly close battle for first. Additional congratulations to Gabriel Powell for winning Best Oralist out of the final round! We would also like to congratulate Andrew Zimlich, whose great work in the first round of the tournament earned him the award of Best Preliminary Oralist. Thank you to our executive board, especially our 1L tournament director John Spengler, for making this endeavor a wildly successful one. And a final thank you to every student who participated in the tournament. It would not have been nearly as successful without all of your hard work and we are incredibly grateful. We hope you all had as much fun competing as we did judging you!

Last, but never least, help us celebrate our Showcase team! This past weekend our Showcase team competed in the Bryant-Moore Invitational Moot Court Competition at Howard University. Our team put on an incredible performance at the competition with oralists Ally Morcus and Dave Kilduff, supported by brief writer Sonia Patel, representing the petitioner, and oralists Athanasius Sirilla and Molly Baldock, with support from brief writer Will Clark, representing the respondent! Our Showcase team also serves as one of the law schools proudest and longest standing traditions! For the 74th year running our Showcase team hosted oral arguments in front of a panel of distinguished judges for the NDLS community in the McCartan Courtroom. This Showcase also serves as an introduction to oral arguments for the first year law students at Notre Dame. This year judges included Judge John F. Kness of the Northern District of Illinois, Judge Matthew Solomson of the Court of Federal Claims, and Jeanine Gozdecki, a partner at Barnes and Thornburg. The 2Ls of Showcase were instrumental in putting on this years Showcase argument. Oralists Alicia Armstrong, Mia Nevarez, Adem Osmani, and Annie Ortega, along with brief writers McKenzie Brummond and Will Vickery are next in line to keep this proud NDLS tradition alive. Congratulations to Showcase! Thank you for your hard work competing and educating the next generation of Notre Dame lawyers!
