It was wonderful reconnecting with the juniors, seniors, and sophomores and meeting the freshmen at the EE Back-to-School Barbecue. The crisp, fall-like weather was perfect - and now we're back to summer again!

EE Professor Thomas O'Sullivan's research continues to play a transformative role in improving health outcomes for women.
With a new grant, researchers at the University of Notre Dame and the Tecnológico de Monterrey School of Medicine and Health Sciences aim to improve breast cancer diagnostics for thousands of women in resource-limited communities. Thomas O'Sullivan, associate professor at University of Notre Dame, Department of Electrical Engineering, will collaborate to gather clinical and cultural feedback while using NearWave — a battery-powered imaging device that his lab developed to characterize breast lesions. Dr. Daly Avenda?o, MD, PhD is also bringing expertise to this pilot study, which looks to optimize the breast diagnostic imaging procedure for low and middle-income settings in Mexico while evaluating the accuracy of breast malignancy diagnosis in patients scheduled for breast biopsies. “By addressing global health concerns through reciprocal and translational research, and by strengthening our partnerships in Mexico, we are working together as a force for good to improve health standards for women facing breast cancer here in Indiana and around the world,” said Nydia Morales-Soto, PhD, assistant director of the Eck Institute for Global Health at the University of Notre Dame and co-Principal Investigator on the project. Learn more about applications for the award, which was made possible by the Indiana CTSI and the IU Center for Global Health Equity’s Reciprocal Innovation Grants Program. https://lnkd.in/eEW4n-8d Photo by Barbara Johnston/University of Notre Dame

Produced at the University of Notre Dame. ?? Accelerated through collaboration. ???????? Transforming the microelectronics landscape.?? As part of the Silicon Crossroads Microelectronics Hub, Notre Dame remains committed to advancing all elements of microelectronics and semiconductor innovation — from workforce development to real-world application to infrastructure. Consistent with that mission, the campus shares its world-class capabilities with other researchers across academia and industry. The University's Nanofabrication Facility supplies state-of-the-art equipment for designing and manufacturing integrated circuits and devices with geometries ranging from centimeters down to a few nanometers. In the Electron Microscopy Core of the Notre Dame Integrated Imaging Facility, state-of-the-art tools enable users to attack the most complex modern research problems with micron to Angstrom spatial resolution. The new Wideband Test Facility — made possible through the ARI (Applied Research Institute)'s Microelectronics Commons Award — builds on Notre Dame’s strength in high-frequency device and circuit testing to enable and push advanced wideband system and antenna development. Capabilities exist to test small-signal, noise, and large signal characteristics of transistors, amplifiers, and modules from Ka-band through G band, as well as antenna and antenna array characterization from D through G-band. In an era of rapid tech growth, Notre Dame's versatile capacities can help ensure that researchers have the right venues to meet the moment.
