The research group of Donny Hanjaya-Putra, assistant professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering at the University of Notre Dame, have developed tunable biomaterials that can grow lymphatic vessels in the lab. Utilizing a gel made from hyaluronic acid, an environment is created where these vessels can grow in just a few days. These discoveries could be helpful for treating diseases like cardiovascular problems and lymphedema, a swelling, usually in the arms or legs, caused by a buildup of lymph fluid. University of Notre Dame associate professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering, Ed Kinzel, and his lab, have pioneered a 3D-printing approach to glass fabrication that promises to advance optics, photonics, and microelectronics. The development of an efficient and cost-effective technique for 3D printed glass could enable the production of complex structures, like photovoltaic glass, without relying on labor-intensive production processes. Learn more about professor Kinzel's research and this 3D glass printing technique at the link below. #notredame #materialsscience #materialsengineering
