The MCF offers comprehensive analytical services, expertise, and instrumentation for both internal and external partners
关于我们
The Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) is a shared resource core facility at the University of Notre Dame open to both internal and external use. It is home to a comprehensive suite of analytical instruments along with a highly trained staff with the experience to tackle a wide range of analytical and research projects. MCF staff regularly consult with external clients to develop approaches to solve unique technical challenges, often connecting clients with Notre Dame professors and other experts. Contact the MCF to discuss contract analysis, research projects and proposal writing including STTR and SBIR efforts, general materials analysis and scientific consulting, life cycle analysis, and modeling. The MCF provides instrumentation and expertise for the characterization of solids, liquids and gasses. Major techniques include XPS, high resolution XRD, electron microprobe, gas chromatography, Raman, TGA, DSC, mass spectrometry, AFM, surface and optical profilometry, rheometer, mechanical testing, tribology, FTIR, UV-Vis, powder XRD, particle shape & size analyzer, DLS, zetasizer, surface area and pore size distribution). Other analytical techniques are also available. Contact us with a scientific question or idea for a research project and we can help you with your next step.

We were lucky to have Andrea Reisinger (with great research and SOP video editing skills) this summer! Best of luck and come back to visit soon!
As the students head back to campus, I wanted to update everyone on what I spent my time on this summer! I spent my summer after graduating from Notre Dame on campus working with the Materials Characterization Facility specifically working with Ian Lightcap on both general lab work using various characterization equipment and working on an incredibly interesting energy research project!

This is big news! Congrats to Notre Dame EARTH team! The funding is the first win--I can't wait to see what wins for sustainability and energy efficiency emerge from this team of all-stars!
Research and education leader focused on positive impact; industry engagement; workforce development; and large-scale partnerships.
Notre Dame Research is honored that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has chosen the University of Notre Dame to participate in a second Engineering Research Center (ERC)! ERCs are renowned for uniting industry and academia around big societal challenges. In collaboration with our partners in CISTAR NSF Engineering Research Center, we've helped transform the way our country utilizes its natural gas resources. Now, with the new EARTH Center, Notre Dame researchers will help revolutionize the refrigeration industry and significantly reduce its environmental impact. Special congratulations to Prof. Jennifer Schaefer in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, who will serve as the center's Deputy Director, and to all of the other faculty involved. We can't wait to see what you achieve! https://lnkd.in/gm4grkZB https://lnkd.in/gCrX3-XJ

Looking forward to this new collaboration!
“Indiana’s superpower is working together to solve big problems, and this is the first step toward that goal.” As a member of the Indiana Research Consortium, Notre Dame is partnering with Indiana University Bloomington and Purdue University to advance technological development, promote economic growth, and attract top talent and industries to the state. While addressing pressing challenges alongside these leading institutions, Notre Dame brings expertise in microelectronics, hypersonic flight, cyber-physical systems, and more. While pursuing discoveries, researchers will also draw upon the University’s world-class infrastructure for?nanofabrication,?materials analysis?and?hypersonic testing. https://lnkd.in/gNeTQhJB
