???Servant Leadership in Action!??? The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs is incredibly proud of Brandon Santiago, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and second-year student at Notre Dame Law School, for his outstanding work and servant leadership during Student Veterans of America's Washington Week 2025. Brandon exemplifies the values we hold dear at the University of Notre Dame as he advocates for veterans on Capitol Hill, meeting directly with elected officials to champion policies that support student veterans nationwide. Representing the heart of our Catholic tradition and the "Different Kind of Lawyer" philosophy, he continues to make a meaningful impact far beyond the classroom. Washington Week allowed Brandon to connect with fellow veterans, grow his understanding of public policy, and meet Notre Dame alumni like Rep. patrick fallon (ND '90) and Rep. Rudy Yakym III (ND EMBA '19) to further the mission of supporting veterans. Thanks to the Notre Dame in DC team for their coordination and support throughout Brandon's visit! Join us in celebrating Brandon Santiago, a true ambassador for our university and a servant leader making the world a better place for service members, veterans, and their families. Fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks bring users more rapid upload and download speeds, lower latency, and greater reliability on their mobile devices. But steep energy costs have accompanied 5G's rollout. In response, researchers at the University of Notre Dame are producing an antenna that can deliver 5G performance while using one-tenth of the energy of current systems. “Our initial idea was simple: What if we could design similar capabilities into just one very wideband antenna by letting the physics of materials do the work normally done by many power-hungry chips?” said team lead Jonathan Chisum, an associate professor in the University of Notre Dame, Department of Electrical Engineering and an affiliate of Notre Dame's Wireless Institute. Funding from the U.S. Army makes this innovation possible, and industry partnerships will transition this solution to field settings. The humanities help us understand our past, shape our present, and inspire our future. On Humanities Advocacy Day, Matthew Zyniewicz, Associate Director for Operations and Strategic Initiatives at the University of Notre Dame's Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, met with Members of Congress and their staff to make the case for federal funding of the humanities. He highlighted how National Endowment for the Humanities funding not only strengthens research and education at Notre Dame but also enriches communities across Indiana. Thank you to Rep. Rudy Yakym III (R-IN) and Rep. Jefferson Shreve (R-IN) for taking the time to engage in this important conversation! National Humanities Alliance University of Notre Dame - College of Arts & Letters

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the power of research to shape policies that reduce inequality and expand opportunities–especially for women and girls worldwide. Research shows that each additional year of quality education is linked to an 8-10% income boost–and the impact is even greater for girls. A new project from the University of Notre Dame’s Pulte Institute for Global Development, University of Notre Dame explores how education can be a powerful tool in breaking cycles of poverty. By studying the impact of educational programs in low-income countries, Notre Dame scholars will inform policies that address global inequality.
