Amazing work done by MPA Professor and STEPS (Science and Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability) Center researcher Dr. Jay Rickabaugh!
STEPS researchers Dr. Jay Rickabaugh and Dr. Jacob Siegal recently published “Teaching the orchestra, not just the conductor: Early undergraduate transdisciplinary education in public affairs designed for non-majors” ! ?In the face of disconnects between those doing research and those making policy decisions, building a reinforcing system that generates evidence based policy may need to start in the college classroom. ?? 5 faculty from overlapping disciplines taught a class that used phosphorus sustainability as the topic to examine wicked problems and transdisciplinary interventions. A year after the course ended, students were surveyed about their learning outcomes. ?? Students reported retaining many of the ideas and skills from the course.
