How do Named Professorships really impact CBE faculty? "Prof. Michael Dickey, the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Professor, is an inspiring example of how our distinguished professors provide a great experiential education for our students." - Russ O'Dell, CBE Director of Alumni Relations Named professorships, like Prof. Dickey's, help CBE recruit and retain the very best talent. Not only does a chaired professorship serve as a legacy for its donor, but the recognition and honor provides support for students and high-risk, high-impact science. #GivingPack #ncstatecbe #chemicalengineering

A global leader in chemical and biomolecular engineering education and research.
关于我们
Historic strength and an innovative approach meet in the NC State Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. At NC State, chemical and biomolecular engineering students learn by doing. Working with world-class faculty and a massive network of industry partners, they confront global challenges in the classroom, the lab and the real world. Chemical engineering has been central to the university’s mission since its founding. The first classes in the field met in 1899, and the first graduates earned their degrees in 1925. Today, we bring that historic commitment and a forward-facing approach to bear on modern problems.

?? Faculty Feature: Dr. Matthew Cooper ?? Meet Dr. Matthew Cooper, an Associate Teaching Professor in the NC State Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, where he has landed his dream job. Passionate about teaching, Matt thrives on helping students understand the intricacies of chemical engineering—what he calls explaining the workings of Mother Nature. ???? Beyond the classroom, Matt plays a pivotal role in the department’s accreditation efforts, and he’s incredibly proud that their team recently passed the ABET review with flying colors—a testament to years of dedication and hard work. ???? Lately, his research has focused on improving student-teacher relationships, recognizing that effective learning requires a balance of care, understanding, and fairness. He sees it as both a privilege and a responsibility to help students navigate challenges inside and outside the classroom. This August, Matt will bring his teaching expertise to the OFDS New Faculty Orientation Workshop (NFOW), co-leading the first two days alongside Dr. Sarah Heckman. Stepping into this role following Dr. Lisa Bullard’s retirement, he’s excited to share innovative teaching and classroom management techniques with new faculty. ??? Outside of academia, Matt is a nature lover who grew up exploring the outdoors in West Virginia and still hikes several times a week—his favorite local spot being Eno River State Park. He’s also an avid gardener, growing heirloom tomatoes from seeds passed down by his late grandmother. ?? Fun fact? Matt is a dedicated fantasy football player, recently winning back-to-back championships in his 14-team friends & family league! When he’s not teaching, hiking, or tending to his garden, Matt enjoys: ?? Comedy podcasts like Threedom, Pen Pals, and Comedy Bang! ?? Rick Steves’ travel shows (now free on YouTube!) ?? Non-fiction reads, including The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver and his current book, Relationship-Rich Education by Peter Felten & Leo Lambert. NC State College of Engineering is lucky to have such a dedicated educator and mentor shaping the next generation of engineers!?
