Building vibrant rural communities.

关于我们

The mission of the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center is to develop, promote, and implement sound economic strategies to improve the quality of life of rural North Carolinians. The Center serves the state's 78 rural counties, with a special focus on individuals with low to moderate incomes and communities with limited resources. Created in 1987, the Rural Center operates a multi-faceted program that includes conducting research into rural issues; advocating for policy and program innovations; and building the productive capacity of rural leaders, entrepreneurs, and community organizations. The Center is a private, nonprofit organization led by a board of directors. For media inquiries, please contact Bill Holmes at [email protected] or 919-621-5060.

The importance of affordable childcare cannot be overstated, but too often people and families in North Carolina live in childcare deserts - areas that lack adequate access to childcare. Our latest research finds that in North Carolina, 44% of rural residents live in a childcare desert, a number that is comparable to the state's suburban and urban residents. There are also challenges in finding workers and paying them a living wage. Read more in our new report "State of Childcare in Rural North Carolina" from our Research and Data Manager Dalton Bailey. https://ow.ly/GMWm50U9GmK #Childcare #SmallBiz #InvestInRural #RuralCounts
