Our next Board Member Spotlight is Dr. Brooke Kistler (RN: ADN/Diploma Nurse Educator).

Current role and length of time, past roles: Department Head, Nursing at CVCC, previously LPN/CNA Director, previously Associate Professor. Continue to work as House Supervisor in an Aging In Place Community to fill my passion with working with the elderly. Practice expertise was Cardiovascular ICU, Open Heart Recovery & Telemetry Nurse.
Why nursing? I have always felt called to healthcare. When exploring the opportunities, nursing gave me the diversity of field practice and ability to connect and build rapport with my patients.
Hobbies: Hiking – particularly training and participating in ultimate hiking activities (20 miles or more in a day); traveling to new places.
Favorite Author: I love listening to books on tape during my hour-long commute. There are far too many talented authors to select a favorite, but the three books I am currently listening to are: High Road Leadership by John Maxwell, The Nurse Behind the Gates by Shari Ryan, and A Christmas Memory by Richard Paul Evans.
Favorite Quote: I have two – “Esse Quam Videri” – attributed to Cicero “To Be Rather Than To Seem” that speaks to the authenticity I pursue as a leader, being true to who I am and those I serve. The other shaped me as a student and has become the underpinning of my teaching and leadership in the academic setting. “Tell me and I forget; Teach me and I remember; involve me and I learn” – attributed to Benjamin Franklin.
