US Army Fort Bragg is the largest military base in US. It's the home of 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army and Special Operations Forces which are crucial in our nation’s defense strategy. On March 13, North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette met Fort Bragg Garrison Commander, Col. Chad Mixon and key leaders to learn about the installation’s operations, challenges, and priorities. ? After a tour which included the Transition Training Program and Pope Army Airfield, Sec. Mallette joined the soldiers for lunch, giving her a chance to honor the brave men and women who answer the call of duty. ? ?“At DMVA, we are committed to partnering with Fort Bragg to find meaningful ways to support our servicemembers, veterans, and their families.”? ? The North Carolina Department of Military & Veterans Affairs Headquarters is located in Raleigh, N.C. The NC State Veterans Service Office is located at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office, Winston-Salem. Veteran Service Offices are strategically located throughout the state from Murphy to Elizabeth City. Four State Cemeteries are located in Black Mountain, Goldsboro, Jacksonville and Spring Lake. The Department oversees four Veterans State Nursing Homes, located in Fayetteville, Black Mountain, Salisbury and Kinston. NCDMVA District Offices are staffed by one or more Veteran Service Officers with clerical assistance. They are highly trained amd skilled officers who directly serve veterans and their families. They train, assist and supervise the work of the affiliated County Service Officers in their district. All 100 NC counties have County Service Officers providing either part or full-time service. These service officers are employees of their respective county and work in affiliation with NCDMVA. The Veterans State Cemetery Program has a Program Manager in the Assistant Secretary's Office. Each Cemetery has a Superintendent and four staff members. The cemeteries are for burial of qualified North Carolina veterans and their dependents. The State Veterans Homes are staffed by a Program Manager in the Assistant Secretary's Office. The States Veterans Homes provide skilled nursing care to qualified North Carolina veterans. There are no state-appropriated funds provided to operate these facilities. In appreciation for the service and sacrifices of North Carolina's war veterans, a scholarship program at approved schools in North Carolina has been established for the qualifying children of deceased, disabled, combat or POW|MIA veterans.
