Integration is much more than a buzzword - it's a model for improving care for noncommunicable diseases (such as #diabetes) that is driving conversations around the world. At the February diabetes conference in Copenhagen, Dr. Ana Mocumbi, co-chair of the NCDI Poverty Network, highlighted partnerships and integration as a panelist and Tinotenda Dzikiti advocated for the voices of people living with #NCDs and seeing the impacts of integrated care every day.

A “game-changing” study tour of PEN-Plus implementation in Sierra Leone last month introduced Ministry of Health officials from six other Francophone nations to the role of integration in providing quality care for people living with severe noncommunicable diseases (#NCDs) in low- and lower-middle-income countries.#GlobalHealth #ActOnNCDs #Diabetes #HeartDisease

ICYMI last week, very exciting news for our team and for children living with noncommunicable diseases (#NCDs) such as #diabetes in Mozambique: The European Commission has awarded a five-year Horizon Europe grant to a partnership that includes our Mozambique co-secretariat—housed at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo—to assess and support the implementation of the PEN-Plus package of clinical services. This incredible collaboration with partners around the world will have enormous impacts on research and implementation of integrated care for NCDs. Now, more than ever, we must work together to advance a person-centered global health agenda. The 4th Global NCD Alliance Forum brought together over 700 delegates from more than 70 countries in Kigali to tackle the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This Forum was a pivotal platform to strengthen partnerships and drive solutions that reduce the global NCD burden and improve health outcomes worldwide. Dr. Gina Agiostratidou, T1D Program Director at The Helmsley Charitable Trust, emphasized the power of collaboration: "If we want to reach solutions, we need to build partnerships that put people, not diseases, at the center. In addition to the powerful story of Emmanuel, this The Lancet Group piece by Jacqui Thornton shows how PEN-Plus is more than a model of care for severe, chronic #NCDs -- it's a movement. From the article: "In 2019, more than 50 African health leaders visited Masaka Hospital as an exemplar. In 2022, all 47 countries of the World Health Organization African region pledged to replicate the PEN-Plus model and initiate services by the end of the decade. Ten countries have already started, including Sierra Leone. 'We were in Sierra Leone last week with countries from west Africa as diverse as Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Cameroon. These countries were learning from the example in Sierra Leone and were working to start their own PEN-Plus programmes by the end of the year,' Gene Bukhman said. 'The PEN-Plus movement shows that where children are born does not have to determine whether they live or die.'"
