This discussion was held after we completed our preliminary survey of Gurung speaking children in the Gurung villages in Waling and Bheerkot Municipalities in Syangja district, Gandaki Province, Nepal. We discuss on the need to study child language on wider perspectives: language and cognition, Human and machine language learning, language acquisition and evolution, language and culture. Our visit to the Gurung villages in Bheerkot Ward No. 9 in Syangja as we survey Gurung children and the situation of spoken Gurung language for our research on Gurung child language acquisition. Our team here includes Prof. Dr. Balthasar Bickel, Director NCCR Evolving Language, Prof. Dr. Sabine Stoll, Director, Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of Language Evolution (ISLE) UZH, Dr. Dagmar Jung, Senior Researcher at ISLE and NCCR Evolving Language, Sofya Ganieva, PhD candidate at ISLE, University of Zurich, me and KB Gurung, our guide in the village areas. You can also get a glimpse of Sworek Maidan in Bheerkot, the first paragliding school of Nepal. We visited schools and homes to assess the children speaking Gurung at home and school.
