At the NCCHC National Conference in Las Vegas, NCCHC Resources program manager, Claire Wolfe, co-presented mixed-methods research exploring MOUD diversion in carceral settings. One key takeaway: The motivation for MOUD diversion is perceived to be wide ranging. When crafting MOUD policies and procedures, it is not only worthwhile, but crucial, to understand why individuals divert and to respond accordingly. NCCHC Resources Managing Director, Fred W. Meyer, MA, CJM, CCHP, was honored to present Nancy Booth with the NCCHC Edward A. Harrison Award of Excellence in Correctional Health Care Leadership. Ms. Booth has over 50 years of experience in managing, educating, and leading health care teams and formerly served as both Director of Nursing Services and Supervisor of Case Management for San Diego County jails. Ms. Booth provides our clients with an unwavering commitment to not only improving care for patients, but to educating and empowering those providing the care. What is the greatest challenge you face each day in correctional health care? It may be hard to distill down to one, but we asked, and you answered. At the NCCHC Resources booth in Las Vegas last week, attendees overwhelmingly reported staffing as their top challenge. Other responses included communication, stigma, re-entry, and cost. What do you think?

Meet NCCHC Resources mental health consultant, Nikki Johnson, a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience working in jails and prisons. Dr. Johnson is a Certified Addiction Specialist with a wide range of experience, including implementation of a Competency Restoration Program, development of a crisis de-escalation program for deputies working with individuals with serious mental illness, and efforts to expand access to medications for opioid use disorder in jail. Providing high quality mental health care to incarcerated persons is complex, and Dr. Johnson provides our clients with a demonstrated commitment to finding innovative ways to serve this population.??
