Today I received an honorable mention from the NC College Media Association for my feature on Reeves Peeler’s city council campaign this past election season. Additionally, Technician took home a total of 11 individual awards and Best of Show in both online and print. I’m so proud of the work Technician has done and is continuing to do this year, and I’m so grateful for the NCCMA’s recognition!

I am so excited to introduce a unique collaboration between Technician, Nubian Message and The News & Observer Publishing Company. With early voting happening now and Election Day on the horizon, Technician and The Nubian Message crafted a special print issue featuring News & Observer’s official voter guide. I am so proud of the final product and that News & Observer trusted us to get their voter guide out to NC State students. A huge thank you goes to Jordan Schrader, Laura Brache and Elizabeth Walters for this opportunity, and of course to Alianna Kendall-Brooks for her help in building this historic project. Check it out here:

I’m honored to share that I received a College Media Association Pinnacle Award for First Place in Best Sports Feature Photo at a Division 1 school. This means SO much to me as the CMA Pinnacle Awards honor the best college media organizations and individual work. The annual contest is open to student work produced for any college media organization, including print, broadcast and online outlets, during an academic year. Thank you to NC State Student Media and Agromeck for giving me these awesome opportunities in college and setting me up for success!

I had the opportunity to give a presentation at the College Media Association 2024 Conference on reporting on mental health. I discussed my experience participating in the Solutions Journalism Network mental health collaborative and the ways Technician has evolved our coverage of mental health on campus in recent years. I’m so grateful I was able to share my experience and give tips to fellow students looking to report on this crucial issue. Thanks to Ben McNeely for letting me join and to the CMA for having us!

Windhover: Literary and Arts Magazine held its annual Fall Open Mic this week, and this year it had a twist; with the help of generous donations from WAKE Up and Read Community Coalition, attendees used vintage book pages and spreads to create blackout poetry before the lineup of performances. It was an amazing opportunity to hear from NC State creatives in poetry, prose, film and song, and brought artistic talents together for a relaxing night of crafting, connecting and learning more about submitting to this year's edition of?Windhover. Put on with English Club, this event is just the first in a lineup of collaborations?Windhover?has in store this year, so stay tuned and submit to NC State's award-winning magazine!

On Saturday, students from across all Student Media outlets gathered for our highly anticipated annual Training Day! We were honored to welcome Bridget Foster, MBA, Senior News Director at Spectrum News North Carolina, to our training day. Bridget shared invaluable insights on discovering our unique voices, the responsibilities that come with being a journalist, and the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance in such a fast-paced industry. Students then participated in specialized workshops tailored to their roles in Student Media—covering journalism, sales, photography, videography, and broadcasting. These sessions were led by program alumni and experts from across the university, offering hands-on experience and practical knowledge. It was an inspiring and productive day filled with meaningful connections, practical skills, and fresh perspectives. We’re excited to see how our talented students will apply these lessons as they continue to shape the future of Student Media. Here's to another year of growth, creativity, and impactful storytelling!
