The North Carolina Economic Development Association's 2025 Site Selectors Summit and Spring Conference provided an excellent opportunity for EDR staff—Mark Pope, Trey Cash, and Julie Graham—to network and learn about the latest trends in economic development from leaders across the state. Notable speakers at the event included NC Governor Josh Stein, Christopher Chung, executive director of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), Lee Lilley, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and Joe Melvin, CEcD Melvin, Vice President of North Carolina's Southeast. Key topics discussed at the conference included the importance of maintaining North Carolina’s competitive edge in economic development, workforce preparedness, and investment in site readiness, infrastructure, and job creation in rural communities. EDR staff took this opportunity to share the benefits of the EDR region with the twenty-nine top-tier site selector consultants who attended from across the United States. This engagement allowed them to discuss current initiatives and learn more about various sites throughout the state. Additionally, EDR was a Silver Sponsor for the event and proudly sponsored the Monday Golf Outing on the beautiful Pinehurst Resort greens, which served as a valuable networking opportunity. ,, Thank you, NCEDA, for an incredible event where we could connect with leaders and colleagues who make economic development happen! #NCEDA #EconomicDevelopment

EDR's Mark Pope, Trey Cash, and Julie Graham are in Pinehurst for the???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????. They are networking with Site Selectors and learning about the top trends in economic development from leaders across North Carolina. Great event, #NCSiteSelectors2025!
We're kicking off the final day of #NCSiteSelectors2025 and are already off to a strong start with an update from Christopher Chung, CEO of Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), and The Honorable Lee Lilley, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, moderated by Natalie Dean Hawkins, PMP, President of Moore County Economic Development Partnership. Some key takeaways from the discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining North Carolina’s competitive edge in economic development. Christopher Chung emphasized that “product is always going to be important for a fast-growing state like ours,” reinforcing the need for continued investment in site readiness and infrastructure. Lee Lilley spoke about the Rural Transformation Grant Program, which supports downtown revitalization, capacity building, and job creation in rural communities. Workforce preparedness was another topic, with Lilley noting that “there’s no substitute for a great workforce - you don’t stay there unless you continue to invest in it.” The state remains committed to being first in talent through PropelNC and strong partnerships with the NC Community College System to align workforce training with industry needs. Additionally, the conversation addressed barriers to workforce participation, including childcare challenges, with more than 32,000 working-age parents in NC unable to enter the workforce due to lack of childcare options. These were great insights for our practitioners, site selectors, and allied members! #NCEDA #EconomicDevelopment
