"We are at the grasps of the new health challenges driven by climate change,"?says Hon. Minister Yolanda Awel Deng, the minister of health of South Sudan. Rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, and unpredictable flooding have intensified South Sudan's health challenges. “Seven million people?in my country are on the verge of starvation,” she says.?“Malnutrition, waterborne diseases, malaria and cholera outbreaks are more frequent. At the heart of our response to this crisis is our health workforce.” Hon. Deng has a clear call for partners and donors: Increase investment in health workforce development, particularly in training, recruitment, and retention of health workers in vulnerable climate regions. Leaders and funders who convened this week at #COP29, the UN Climate Change Conference, should listen to her. A new post on our VITAL Blog highlights the voice of Hon.
