Girl Power North Carolina successfully hosted its first event at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute this week, introducing over 40 students to careers in the utility and infrastructure industries. Students were able to fly drones, climb power poles, ride in bucket trucks, and more! We love to see what is happening in our #NCCTE classes and this story is super “sweet”! ?? Natalie Jones’ Entrepreneurship II class (Midway High School) kicked off the semester with a meaningful assignment. Her students chose a company they admire and wrote a letter asking for advice on starting a business. One student chose Krispy Kreme — and Natalie received a phone call from the CEO’s office! They were so impressed by the student’s letter that they wanted to do more than just write back…So, last week, they Door Dashed 5 dozen doughnuts to the class, along with an inspiring letter from the CEO to the student. It doesn’t stop there — another student received coupons for two meals at Texas Roadhouse, and several others got thoughtful response letters from the companies they reached out to. These real-world connections are creating such authentic learning experiences that will inspire and motivate our students. Michael Renne, NC DPI Computer Science, IT, and Technology Education Consultant, had the privilege of attending the Camel City Game Jam hosted by Atkins High School in Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. Renne said it was truly an amazing event showcasing the talent of North Carolina's young people and it highlighted one of the many successes of our CTE programs across the state. ?? Students had 48 hours to design, build, test, and showcase a video game using industry standard tools. They were then judged by professionals in the video game industry. ??
