For more than 112 years, Universal's film group has been behind some of the most iconic films in cinema. Committed to preserving this rich legacy, Universal launched its Restoration Project in 2012 in partnership with The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Since then, Universal Pictures and The Film Foundation have restored 149 significant films, including classics like E.T., Jaws, Back to the Future, and many more, ensuring these treasures endure for future generations. In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Steven Spielberg’s first major studio theatrical release, Sugarland Express, was chosen as the 2024 film restoration project. Over six months, Universal collaborated closely with Spielberg and his team at Amblin Partners to meticulously restore the film, bringing new life to this cinematic milestone. In August, NBCUniversal employees continued to make a difference through NBCUnites, our social impact initiative: ?? Over 80 NBCU employee volunteers worked to make snuffle balls and pack treat bags for an event with Clear the Shelters, NBCUniversal Local's nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign celebrating its 10-year anniversary. ?? NBCU colleagues gathered to watch the Olympic Men’s basketball semi-finals as they designed water bottle stickers for Girls on the Run International, a national non-profit teaching 3rd–8th grade girls life lessons through running. Over 50 volunteers designed inspirational stickers as they cheered on Team USA. ?? On our Universal Studios Lot, we welcomed 22 high school and college students from Minds Matter Southern California for our annual Media Fellows Program. Students participated in a 3-day ‘Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Wicked’ case study led by NBCU mentors. ?? Our NBCUnites Ambassadors continued to lead impactful projects across the country. San Diego colleagues hosted a movie night at Noah Homes for 125 adults and children with developmental disabilities. At our Hollywood campus, 45 volunteers worked with Planet Bee Foundation to build 25 bee houses for native bees. ?? Comcast NBCUniversal and NBCUniversal Local announced $2.5 million has been awarded to 76 nonprofits through our 2024 Local Impact Grants, supporting youth education, empowerment, and community engagement.
