1/3 Recap: NB Black Summit , 19th-20th April In Moncton, New Brunswick The 2nd New Brunswick Black Summit was a success! The summit was organized by a coalition of Black led organisations including Uzima Network,?Battle Of The Arts NB (BOTA NB), New Brunswick African Association, Pure Gold Foundation, AEARA and Goals, Growth Greatness Consulting. Our keynote speakers?Alain Babineau?and?amanuel melles?inspired us to take greater action and foster collaborative efforts towards our shared goals. Representing Canadian Race Relations Foundation was Manju Varma, Ph.D Our event presenters/panelists; Debbie Langston, Jalana Morton, ?Emmanuel Nizeyimana and Naomi Ingabire from Khwezi Alliance, Chinazam Igwe,?Yusuf Shire,?Sydona Chandon?Katerina Msafari, AFM, FMVA??, Mahmoud Samb, Ange Made, and?Norelice Mboutou,?Anicet Buranga from Association Initiatives Afro-Canadiennes du Nouveau Brunswick (AIAC-NB)?sparked engaging discussions that left us both in awe and wholly inspired! And our MC’s?Diani Blanco?and Lea Muhigi brought a steady spark throughout the event (with Diani single-handedly leading the charge all day Saturday) We are deeply grateful and humbled! I recently discussed the failings of the Canadian Human Rights Commission with City News. The Commission is now under an international review due to findings of discrimination against Black and racialized workers, and rejecting race-based complaints. It is crucial for the Commission to lead in combating discrimination, rather than being the source of it. #HumanRights #Discrimination #Equality

Press Conference: Canadian Human Rights Commission Faces Downgrade Due to Anti-Black Discrimination In a landmark decision, the international body that hands out human rights accreditations has concluded that there is enough basis to review Canada’s “A” status – an unprecedented move that puts it among the ranks of countries like Russia, Iraq, and Venezuela. The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) — a United Nations body — has launched a “Special Review” of the accreditation of the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC). This comes as the result of a complaint by a coalition of Canadian human rights organizations, which submitted federal findings of anti-Black discrimination at the Canadian Human Rights Commission as evidence. If the international body finds there are grounds to downgrade the CHRC to “B” status, for the first time ever, it will no longer have independent participation rights at the UN Human Rights Council, its subsidiary bodies and some General Assembly bodies and mechanisms. Further, it will lose the right to vote and hold governance positions at GANHRI (Global Alliance Of National Human Rights Institutions). Le week-end dernier à Moncton, j'ai eu l'occasion de participer en tant que panéliste au 2e Sommet des Noirs du Nouveau-Brunswick (NB BLACK SUMMIT). Aux c?tés d'Ange Made, Sydona Chandon et Diani Blanco (modératrice), j'ai pris part à la session ?Centering Black creativity and joy?, où nous avons exploré l'impact profond de la créativité sur l'identité et le changement social au sein des communautés noires. En tant que créative moi-même, j'ai été enrichi par les discussions stimulantes menées par mes collègues panélistes. Cette expérience a été des plus gratifiantes. Je tiens à exprimer ma gratitude envers les organisateurs et à les remercier pour leur aimable invitation. Le sommet a été organisé par une coalition d'organisations dirigées par des personnes noires, notamment Uzima Network, Battle Of The Arts NB (BOTA NB) , l'Association africaine du Nouveau-Brunswick, la Fondation Pure Gold, AEARA et Goals, Growth Greatness Consulting. --- This past weekend in Moncton, I had the privilege of being a panelist at the 2nd New Brunswick Black Summit. Alongside Ange Made, Sydona Chandon, and Diani Blanco (moderator), I participated in the session "Centering Black creativity and joy," where we discussed the profound impact of creativity on identity and social change within Black communities. As a creative myself, I gained valuable insights from the engaging discussions led by the other panelists. It was truly an enriching experience. I want to extend my thanks to the organizers for their invitation.
