Today, March 20, is the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Secretaries of the Army and Navy to work together on training devices and simulators. This historic MOU, signed on March 20, 1950, laid the foundation for the unique ecosystem we call “Team Orlando” and the development and fielding of training systems used by every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, and Guardian in today’s military. Last week PEO STRI personnel joined our Navy brothers and sisters from the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) for a special ceremony and cake-cutting to mark the diamond anniversary. The strength of the United States Department of Defense and the US Army is our unity and shared purpose, and this longstanding agreement illustrates our combined commitment to training the most lethal warfighters in the world. Last week I had the honor of presenting Johanna Matias, PMA-205, with the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for her innovative work to field Sims @ Sea – a new technology that is already making a difference in the fleet. Johanna, assistant program manager for systems engineering, led a diverse team from commands across the US Navy to bring Sims @ Sea aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). This revolutionary capability allows aviators in a carrier air wing to train as an integrated fighting force while deployed at sea. Thanks to Johanna and her teammates, our warfighters are more equipped to fight, win and return home safely. Well done! #Warfighting #Lethality #Readiness
