Last week I spent the week in Charleston at the Naval Data and AI Workshop hosted by Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic. In addition to snapping some cool pics, I got to hear some fascinating panels and take part in conversations with really smart people. The Navy is full steam ahead ???? towards the cutting edge of data and AI!

Brilliant minds from across the Navy and Marine Corps came together to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and data analytics. ? This 3 day workshop wrapped up today, and fostered collaboration among scientists, engineers, and military personnel, driving advancements in data-driven decision-making. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and shared expertise, we’re shaping the future of mission readiness and operational success. Think you can outmaneuver a Coronado Middle School (CMS) Robotics Team student with an ROV? ???? Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific's Unmanned Maritime Vehicles (UMV) Lab Team members — Daniel Sura, Emily Tylka, Gabriella Loaiza, Tanvir Hussain, and Robert Stitt — spent a day inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders last month. They joined the CMS Robotics Team at the Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex to dive into all things Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)s and Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUV)s. ?? The team showcased cutting-edge tech, answered questions to help with the students’ For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Lego League challenge, and let them try their hand at piloting Video Ray Defender and Deep Trekker Micro ROVs. Their challenge? Retrieve weights from the bottom of the pool using the manipulator arm. Spoiler alert: They crushed it. “It was impressive to see them quickly learn the ROV systems and complete the challenge, as well as their strong enthusiasm,” said Daniel Sura. We can't wait to see where their ocean exploration innovation takes them! ??
