Physicians: Did you know that making the wrong repayment choice early in your career could cost you thousands in lost loan forgiveness? Many doctors start repayment on the Standard 10-Year Plan by default, thinking it’s the best option. But if you plan to pursue Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) or other income-driven repayment benefits, staying on this plan could actually disqualify you from forgiveness opportunities. ?? Tip: If you’re working for a nonprofit or government employer, consider switching to an income-driven repayment (IDR) plan ASAP. It keeps your payments manageable and ensures that every payment counts toward PSLF. We’ve seen too many physicians miss out on savings simply because they weren’t given the right information early enough.
