Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division's Megan Rossi is the service life assessment program coordinator for the Tomahawk missile and an engineer leading the Tomahawk?arm-fire device recertification project, among other roles. “The work we do on teams I have been a part of is important and directly affects the?fleet,” Rossi said. “The work can be challenging but that makes it even more worthwhile. Plus, getting to watch things blow up is also a lot of fun.” Rossi tests electrical devices used in the Block V Tomahawk, the most modern variant of the weapon that delivers long-range precision strikes against land targets from surface ships or submarines. We honor and celebrate Rossi’s contributions protecting the?fleet and supporting the warfighter on this #WorkforceWednesday! Check out USS Chafee (DDG 90) launching a Block V Tomahawk back in 2020 when it was first tested by the Navy. ??: Lt. Sean Ianno

Meet Hannah Mihalik, an Industrial and Systems Engineer in Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division's Safety Division. "I became an engineer because I love systems and processes and I wanted to use my talents to serve our country." For Hannah, the most rewarding thing about her job here is being able to directly see the impact her team has on the safety of our warfighters. Join us in recognizing Hannah and all of our engineers as we continue to celebrate National Engineers Week here at Indian Head!

“Getting to see all of our work come to fruition, from a discussion on a whiteboard, into the warfighters' hands is extremely important.” For Andrew Wright, one of the best aspects about being an engineer is taking concepts from ideation to reality in support of our warfighters. As a mechanical engineer at Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division, this is what Andrew does every day. Join us in celebrating Andrew and all of our engineers as we mark National Engineers Week here at Indian Head!

This week is National Engineers Week! Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division’s Technical Director Mr. Ashley Johnson kicks off the week by recognizing, and celebrating, all the engineers supporting our mission. Johnson started with the command as a young engineer in 1987 so this week is near and dear to his heart! Stay tuned as we feature a new engineer here every day throughout the week. The celebration of National Engineers Week was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in conjunction with President George Washington's birthday. President Washington is often considered the nation's first engineer due to his notable work in the field of land surveying.

Over 40 students from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA visited Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department earlier this week. The students studying Chemistry and Forensic Science had the opportunity to see first hand how we apply these fields every day to support our warfighters. The students received an overview of the EOD Tech Center, the Chemical, Biological & Radiological Defense Department, Expeditionary Exploitation Unit ONE (EXU-1) and got hands-on experience operating our EOD robots! "These students' background in forensic science aligns well with potential opportunities for them to take part in the critical, strategic-level work done here at Indian Head," said Jason Perry, head of NSWC Indian Head's EOD Department. "They are the future and we were super pumped to have them here!"

Leadership at Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division welcomed Chief of Naval Reseach Rear Adm. Kurt Rothenhaus to the command on Tuesday, Dec. 3. While on base, Rothenhaus saw multiple Office of Naval Research-funded energetic science and technology efforts supporting the warfighter and combating national security threats. “The work that goes on here at Indian Head is more important than ever,” Rothenhaus said. “In this age of strategic competition, we all need to work together to maintain our technological advantage. It takes grit from the people who understand the vision. At Indian Head, you are the people who understand it.” NSWC IHD and ONR have collaborated for decades to support global science efforts - from basic and conceptual research to applied research and quick-turnaround technologies that Sailors and Marines need.
