NSWCDD hosted a three-day Naval Surface Technology and Innovation Consortium (NSTIC) collaboration event, presenting strategies and program specifics to academia, defense and industry representatives. The event showcased NSWCDD's commitment to innovation and collaboration for faster and better defense solutions. Day 1: Featured guided tours of NSWCDD facilities. Day 2: Provided NSWCDD’s overview and technical approach. Day 3: Included one-on-one technical meetings. Technical Director Dale Sisson Jr., P.E., SES, emphasized the importance of partnerships in the ongoing evolution of NSWCDD. Commanding Officer Capt. Joe Oravec highlighted the need for innovative collaborations to accelerate fleet deployment. NSTIC Other Transaction Authority (OTA) program lead Cindy Montrief discussed how the OTA helps expand the reach of technology transition initiatives with a noted increase in project awards over the past four years. NSWCDD subject matter experts provided briefs about their technology challenges and the solutions they seek in areas such as launcher and projectile systems, directed-energy science and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
