"Our top priorities are ensuring the base remains mission-ready and keeping our personnel safe,” NAS Oceana’s Commanding Officer Capt. Josh Appezzato said. “Thanks to the dedication of our security forces, public works teams, air operations personnel and culinary specialists, we’re able to continue operations despite the wintry conditions.” Wondering how we stay ready in any condition? NAS Oceana's mission-essential personnel work hard to keep the installation mission-ready at all times…even in almost a foot of snow. From our culinary specialists that keep on-base personnel fed, to our security forces keeping us safe, and to public works and air operations teams working to keep the installation's primary roads and flight line clear—these dedicated individuals are critical to NAS Oceana's ability to be prepared and ready in any condition. #NASOceana #NASOceanaUpdate #AlwaysReady #TeamOceana #DamNeckAnnex #WinterStorm

It takes strength and skill to do what our service members do every day. That same strength and skill is seen in our military families and children. Last week, Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana leadership, spouses, and installation team members were invited to be judges for the Art of Being a Military Child contest. The annual Art of Being a Military Child contest is a collaboration between Virginia Beach City Public Schools and school liaison officers from NAS Oceana and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story to highlight the creativity of children who have experienced the resilience and adventure of military life through their unique and inspiring artwork. Artwork and contest winners will be recognized during an awards ceremony in April. #NASOceana #ArtofBeingAMilitaryChild #VirginiaBeach #TeamOceana #HamptonRoads #JEBLittleCreekFortStory #OneTeamOneFight Joint Commission International

Readiness starts with realistic training. From Feb. 3-14, Naval Air Station Oceana will participate in Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2025 (CS-SC25). This two-week, annual exercise tests the capabilities of U.S. Navy security forces with real-world scenarios, ensuring we stay prepared for evolving threats. We train the way we fight—because preparedness matters. (U.S. Navy photos by MC2 Noah J. Squadrons from Naval Air Station Oceana are honored to recognize President Carter and his life of service. On Jan. 9, F/A-18 E/F Super Hornets from various NAS Oceana-based squadrons supported and executed a head of state flyover in memory of former U.S. President James Earl “Jimmy” Carter. #NASOceana #TeamOceana #USNavy #JimmyCarter #RememberingCarter
And, they’re off. US Navy pilots from eight different commands took off at 1630 to begin their flight to Plains, GA where they will perform a “missing man” formation flyover at President Jimmy Carter’s hometown funeral service. US Navy US Fleet Forces Command

Big time learning at NAS Oceana’s CDC!?? Sherry Jackson, local author and teacher, visited NAS Oceana’s Midway Manor Child Development Center (CDC) to share her book, Time for Time, with the CDC’s book club, the Midway Manor Page Turners. Children had a great time learning how to read an analog clock through the eyes of Harmony, a military child who desperately wants a cool watch. Navy CDCs play a key role in the Navy’s mission by providing quality care for service member’s children. When service members know their children are in a caring and enriching environment, they can focus on the mission at hand. #NASOceana #NavyLife #TeamOceana #VirginiaBeach

“We’re not flying the planes, but we’re making sure they have the chance to fly safely without any inhibitions to their airspace.” Meet Air Controlman Kyle Ng. He’s a part of Naval Air Station Oceana’s Air Traffic Control team. From takeoff to landing, this team makes sure our air space is clear for our pilots to fly safely, ensuring they are mission-ready at all times. ?? by NAS Oceana Public Affairs #TeamOceana #NASOceana #AirTrafficControl #USNavy #Navy
