Today, GRICUA - Gila River Indian Community Utility Authority welcomed visitors from the First Nations Major Projects Coalition. Representing 175 First Nation communities across Canada, the coalition sent a delegation of 13 members from 9 communities to Arizona to learn how tribal utility companies serve and support their people. Throughout their visit, the coalition had the opportunity to explore operations at the @ Tohono O'odham Utility Authority, Navajo Power in Flagstaff, Gila River Utility Authority, and Ak-Chin Indian Community Electric Utility Authority. They noted they've been following GRICUA's growth for over a decade and came to learn more about its journey toward achieving sovereign control over community power. By sharing knowledge today, GRICUA is collectively helping pave the way for the coalition to establish utility services for their own communities in the future. Sub $1M tax credit transfers are challenging to transact. Basis is successfully making it easy and attractive to transact credits of this size. 2?? Developers that can’t monetize tax credits may be forced to abandon an otherwise viable project. As we race to decarbonize our grid, removing market friction will increase clean energy deployment. 3?? Smaller clean energy projects often have bigger community level impacts: In this instance, this transaction supports deploying clean energy for >100 off-grid homes on tribal lands, previously reliant on diesel generators, which now have dependable and carbon pollution free electricity. Today Qcells North America (Qcells), a leading U.S. solar panel manufacturer, and Navajo Power Home (NPH) announced their partnership to provide clean energy to over 300 homes on the Navajo Nation. With Qcells' solar panel donation and a $5 million award from the DOE, Navajo Power Home is on track to power 1,000 homes by 2025. As founders of NPH, our hearts swell with pride as we witness the extraordinary upstart growth and impact of Navajo Power Home, a beacon of hope and empowerment within our community.
