The term "gnome" is thought to have been popularized by the 16th-century Swiss alchemist Paracelsus, who described them as elemental beings connected to the earth. Connection to Nature: Gnomes were believed to live underground or in dense forests, where they protected nature’s secrets, including precious metals and stones. They were often seen as caretakers of plants, animals, and the ecosystem. Forest Dwellers and Protectors Guardians of the Forest: In folklore, gnomes were depicted as protectors of forests, helping to maintain balance in the ecosystem. They were said to safeguard plants and wildlife from human destruction or other unnatural influences.
