You know it because you can see it. Across cities, in the country, as you travel, and out your own window. Fewer insects, vanished birds, concrete jungles, degraded coastlines. ? ?? Nature is disappearing before our very eyes. ?? And nature loss is accelerating climate change. ? As ecosystems are destroyed, so is their ability to absorb carbon dioxide. This contributes to the buildup of greenhouse gases, further exacerbating climate change. ? This twin crisis may seem daunting, but if we work together, we can make a difference. ? ? Thanks to IUCN-Japan for inviting the Nature Positive Initiative Secretariat to speak at their lecture on State of Nature Metrics. ??? Gavin Edwards and Emma Marsden presented the latest in the project to build consensus on an aligned core set of State of Nature Metrics. We know we are losing nature at an alarming rate, and we know that nature can help us tackle the climate crisis. But to make effective change and drive action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss and secure nature-positive outcomes we need to know whether our actions are truly contributing to a positive change for biodiversity. That's why the Nature Positive Initiative is developing State of Nature Metrics. Attendees raised important questions, including: ?? How to determine priority ecosystems ?? The interaction between pressure and state metrics ?? How can State of Nature Metrics be used in a supply chain ...and many more! Read the Nature Positive Initiative metrics progress summary here: https://lnkd.in/e4YKxX7u Also speaking at the lecture: Teppei Dohke, Tsunao Watanabe, Chairman, Japan Committee IUCN, Mitsubishi Electric, Naoki ADACHI, Toru Hattori, Senior Manager, PwC Consulting, LLC, Makoto Haraguchi, Hirotaka Hideshima, Kaoru Fujita, Professor, Graduate School of Life Sciences, Tohoku University / Nikkei ESG, Togo Uchida and many others! #NaturePositive #StateOfNatureMetrics #MetricsMatter

After progress at UN Biodiversity's resumed COP16 in Rome, with some important steps forward on a plan to finance the Global Biodiversity Framework, it's vital that Nature Positive momentum keeps growing. ?? ?? The newly enhanced Mechanism for Planning, Monitoring, Reporting and Review, meanwhile, will be key to underpinning responsibility and transparency in how the world measures whether actions to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030 are being successful. This update underlines the need for a global consensus on credible, practical metrics to measure the state of nature (work that the Nature Positive Initiative is facilitating) and help secure nature-positive outcomes. #NaturePositive #KMGBF #COP16Resumed #COP16Colombia #StateOfNatureMetrics #MetricsMatter
Exministra de Ambiente ???? (2022-2025) | Presidenta de la COP16 | Ambientalista, politóloga y líder política. Impulsé la mayor reducción de la deforestación en 23 a?os.
?? A historic day for biodiversity! At #COP16Resumed, we achieved the adoption of the first global plan to finance the conservation of life on Earth. ?? Resource mobilization ?? Financial mechanism ?? Monitoring framework ?? The implementation of the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework now has a clear path and the resources to become a reality. ???? #PeaceWithNature

???? The UK joins 45 other parties who have submitted their National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs), and it highlights multiple nature-positive strategies ?? This week the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UN Biodiversity) meets to conclude the negotiations started at COP16 in Cali, Colombia. It is an opportune moment to look at how far there is still to go to secure a nature-positive world by 2030. Nature Positive is a global goal commensurate with the mission laid out in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework - to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. But to hit targets and support a livable planet for all, we need more than commitments. Some of the highlights: ?? Support for a net zero, climate resilient and nature positive economy ?? Aligning financial flows with Nature Positive Economy programme, delivered in partnership with the UNDP’s Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN - Biodiversity Finance Initiative) and Financial Sector Deepening Africa (FSD) ?? Recognizing the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and encouraging greater integration between the TNFD and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)’s emerging global baseline on sustainability reporting ?? Scotland's specific biodiversity strategy to embed nature positive farming, fishing and forestry and reach the Nature Positive by 2030 goal Read the NBSAP here: https://lnkd.in/ex7KgVEq Find out how the Nature Positive Initiative, with its 27 core partners, is working to build consensus to measure and drive nature-positive outcomes: https://lnkd.in/etP8UmPX #NaturePositive

What are the next steps in operationalizing the aligned State of Nature Metrics so that companies, financial institutions and more can put them into practice and help tackle the biodiversity crisis? ??This year the Nature Positive Initiative is coordinating a piloting programme to test the draft State of Nature Metrics. Companies and financial institutions are working together with their NPI partner (e.g. Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) or Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)) to test how the metrics can be applied in different use cases in order to drive action and deliver #NaturePositive outcomes. ?? Find out more in this status update: https://lnkd.in/eYRwxqKe Or join the webinar on 3 March - ?? Option one: https://lnkd.in/eenRphQ2 ?? Option two: https://lnkd.in/ebHTxZ-D If you're interested in being part of the pilot, you must first find a piloting partner from the 27 Nature Positive Initiative organizations.

Why do we need consensus on State of Nature Metrics? To create a level playing field of metrics and encourage companies, businesses, financial institutions and other actors to start their journey towards addressing the pressures on nature and delivering nature-positive outcomes. Join the webinar on 3 March to find out how feedback from the wide consultation on State of Nature Metrics has been incorporated: ?? Webinar option 1: 3 March, 09:00-10:00 GMT https://lnkd.in/eenRphQ2 ?? Webinar option 2: 3 March, 16:00-17:00 GMT https://lnkd.in/ebHTxZ-D The new Draft State of Nature Metrics will be tested for applicability and piloted later in 2025. Changes in governments, leadership and political winds mean changes in policy orientation, priorities and investments. But what does that mean for nature and the global goal to secure a #NaturePositive world by 2030? In his latest blog, Marco Lambertini, Convener of the Nature Positive Initiative, looks at the dissonance between the people and the policy, and what's necessary to keep environmental action on track. ?? https://lnkd.in/eNGbqrF3

?? Big news for companies tackling the nature crisis - the validation service for science-based targets for nature is now open. Companies can now use the new GCA Accountability Accelerator service to get their nature goals assessed against the best available science. It’s an important step for any company wanting to ensure their action on nature is credible and scientifically-robust - setting them up to lead the way in the transition to a nature-positive future. "SBTN has designed the rules - an impressive and complex undertaking involving some of the best minds working on nature around the world - and now is the time to put those rules into practice," comments Marco Lambertini.
