The Bio-Leadership Fellowship is much more than a programme. It is an ongoing community of practice and a collaborative global mission to transform human systems by working with nature. We recently wrapped up this year's Fellowship cohort with an 'Onwards Ceremony' -- onwards because, while the core programme may have ended, the Fellowship journey has only just begun. Over the next few years, we aim to connect 300 people together, across regions and sectors, to make a radical difference for the planet. As this global mycelium grows, learns and changes shape, it will continue to be a nourishing space for new innovations to develop. We aim to create a fertile ecosystem for new beginnings. I am thrilled to see this new video with Craig Foster (Sea Change Project) and Dr. Jane Goodall (The Jane Goodall Institute) called "Mother Nature in the Boardroom."?If Mother Nature was in the boardroom, what would she say? We happen to know a lot about that ?? . As you may know, Earth Law Center worked with Lawyers for Nature and other partners to help create the first ‘Board Seat for Nature’ with Faith In Nature (FiN). Since then, a full ELC program emerged, the Nature Governance Agency (NGA), dedicated to advancing Nature-conscious governance and formalizing Nature's voice and role in organizations. And Nature's voice continues to be heard at FiN. Following this case, I have been so excited to see a flurry of related programs, initiatives, and organizations emerge across the world. Corporations are part of Nature, too, even if they are out of balance, and their governance should reflect this reality. (Also, a huge shoutout to Voice for Nature for being amongst the very first to call for Nature to be a board member, shareholder, etc., well before it manifested into reality!) “We can see our impact as humans on the whole Earth system, not just locally, like the rise in temperature, but really fundamentally, altering how it moves in space and rotates” said Prof Benedikt Soja of ETH Zurich in Switzerland. “Due to our carbon emissions, we have done this in just 100 or 200 years. Whereas the governing processes previously had been going on for billions of years, and that is striking” ... Dr Santiago Belda Palazón of the University of Alicante in Spain, who was not part of the research team, said: “This study is a great advance because it confirms that the worrying loss of ice that Greenland and Antarctica are suffering has a direct impact on day length, causing our days to lengthen. This variation in day length has critical implications not only for how we measure time, but also for GPS and other technologies that govern our modern lives.” The Guardian Monday 15 July 2024 #governance is the operative word here. It is not just about human rules, policies and accountability mechanisms. Beyond the 'traditional grey understandings' of governance, there is Nature-conscious governance, which is a lived experience of self-regulation, i.e. for human systems, it is about how we make choices and conduct ourselves in alignment with Nature's laws and wisdoms, for harmonious and peaceful living. #wearenature and our governance systems must reflect that.
