The Earth's Best Defense
关于我们
NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.3 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Worth Magazine has named NRDC one of America's 100 best charities, and the Wise Giving Alliance of the Better Business Bureau reports that NRDC meets its highest standards for accountability and use of donor funds. NRDC was founded in 1970 by a group of law students and attorneys at the forefront of the environmental movement. NRDC lawyers helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws. Today, our staff of more than 300 lawyers, scientists and policy experts -- a MacArthur "genius" award-winner among them -- work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beijing. The New York Times calls us "One of the nation's most powerful environmental groups." The National Journal says we're "A credible and forceful advocate for stringent environmental protection." With the support of our members and online activists, NRDC works to solve the most pressing environmental issues we face today: curbing global warming, getting toxic chemicals out of the environment, moving America beyond oil, reviving our oceans, saving wildlife and wild places, and helping China go green.

What a privilege to have dinner last week with Robert Redford, celebrating his 50 years of extraordinary service to?Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the environmental movement. Over the decades, Bob has been one of the most prominent voices, determined advocates, and tireless champions for protecting nature and the rights of Tribal nations. Bob shared several inspiring stories with two consistent themes: the crucial role of storytelling to engage people and the importance of “never giving up”. More important today than ever before.?Forever grateful to Bob, John Adams and all who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place!

When the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was first created in the 1970s, it had minimal opposition—both sides of the aisle supported environmental regulation. Today, the very agency that’s meant to benefit the lives of all Americans is caught in the middle of political debate.

COP29 Azerbaijan, the 29th United Nations climate conference, begins this week with a priority of scaling up climate finance. As vulnerable countries face record-high temperatures and devastating extreme weather events, wealthy, high-emitting countries must take responsibility and increase their climate investments to keep up with the growing global toll of the climate crisis. This is not charity—it’s justice. Photo: Robert Simmon & Chris Elvidge/NASA Earth Observatory

NRDC blocked dozens of Trump’s attacks on people and our planet during his first term. He and his Big Oil allies are planning to pick up right where they left off, continuing their assault on our environment, climate, and public health. Whatever comes our way, we’re ready to defend the planet, in and out of the courthouse.

The future is uncertain, but our mission is not. For more than 50 years, we’ve stood up to politicians, polluters, and special interests. We sued Donald Trump over 150 times as president in his first term—fighting every time for the planet and its people. We will not be shaken. We will not be silenced.
