To them, it was never about saving money. It’s about letting polluters off the hook and leaving us all to pay the price.

President Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin have launched an unprecedented attack on the EPA’s mission to protect the environment and the health of Americans. Zeldin announced plans to repeal or weaken a staggering 31 standards that are vital to protecting public health and addressing the climate crisis. This comes along with the closure of all the EPA’s environmental justice offices and the cancellation of $20 billion contracts that further clean energy. These actions send a very clear signal: Polluters get a free ride, and the rest of us will pay for it.

It’s hard to turn on the news and see yet another community devastated by the impacts of the climate crisis. Not everyone experiences the same effects of climate change—and not everyone has access to the resources that are necessary to recover. Every fraction of a degree of warming we can prevent will help save lives.

Rocket fuel chemicals don’t belong in our drinking water. NRDC is holding the EPA to its deadlines and to setting urgently needed standards to protect us from contamination.

Our forests are the latest target of President Trump’s ongoing attacks on the environment. His recent executive order seeks to fast-track logging on federal lands, bypassing bedrock legal protections for forest habitats and diverting resources from things like protecting communities from the impacts of wildfires. Forests—especially older ones—give us all clean air and water and provide countless defenses against climate change. We can’t let the government feed them to the chainsaw of wealthy corporations.
