Solar generation up 26%, but electricity demand outpaces growth In 2024, the U.S. power grid’s electricity generation increased by over 109 TWh through the end of July, marking a 4.5% growth. This surge was led by a 52 TWh increase in methane generation, while solar power contributed an additional 36 TWh. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its September Electric Power Monthly, which includes data through July 2024. Key highlights include solar generation increasing by nearly 26% year-over-year; a 1% increase in electricity consumption in July 2024 over July 2023; and a 4.5% rise in electricity generation from January to July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, residential electricity prices have risen by 4.6% since last year. Nationally, solar photovoltaics have seen a steady increase, now accounting for 6.22% of all electricity generated over the past 12 months, as shown in?PV Intel’s national solar data summary. This represents a 20% increase from the previous year when solar constituted 5.16% of all electricity... https://lnkd.in/gVGZgguu)

This was a treat of an afternoon and evening. The Food Group and members from Uproot Farms showed us their agrivoltaics success at US Solar ‘s Big Lake solar site tour and harvest dinner. Thanks US Solar team for supporting this venture that permits farmer immigrants to continue to pursue their vocation of farming here in MN. Big Heart awards for the many contributors involved in this! (Including the many pollinators on native wildflowers!)

ENGIE’s solar projects help power our mission against #climatechange, but they can also help address another ecological crisis: a global collapse in #biodiversity driven by habitat loss. As featured in the New York Times, amidst a global decline of wildlife, our Anoka County #Solar site is home to mammals, insects and more than 70 species of birds — a powerful result from our distributed solar sites’ dedicated efforts. What sets our approach apart is the innovative use of taller solar panels. By placing panels higher off the ground, we allow for a sharp increase in native vegetation species, promoting much more ecological #diversity. The cost of the additional steel to raise the panels and native seeds is insignificant compared to the overall project cost, and over the life of the project, pollinator-friendly landscaping actually saves money due to reduced mowing needs. By fostering environments where nature can thrive, we are demonstrating that renewable #energysolutions can coexist with ecological preservation. OneEnergy's Stockton Solar Project in Winona County, MN was a grand prize winner of the "Hit Me with Your Sun Shot" photo contest! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) received more than 450 submissions from 113 competitors. Judges from Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) and other DOE offices evaluated submissions based on their emotional appeal and impact, composition and content, technical quality, and originality. Based on judging scores, SETO selected two grand prize winners along with 8 other category winners. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g8AWVbBQ #agrivoltaics #vegetation #solar

Restoring shoreline vegetation is some of the most important work we do at NRS. Many people are surprised to learn that a significant number of lakes in Minnesota are not healthy and are in need of remediation. Thankfully, establishing native vegetation along shorelines is an effective and practical strategy that provides real benefit. Our own Brad Vierkant was recently featured in a informative MPR News article about lakeshore restoration. Check it out! ?? ?? ?? #restoration #nativeplants #lakes #cleanwater #habitat #naturalresources #nativebuffer #sustainability
