The Ugandan government has established a National Mining Company to enhance state participation in the mining sector and ensure the country fully benefits from its mineral resources. During a recent stakeholder engagement on "Equitable Value Addition in the Mining Sector: Ensuring a Strong National Mining Company," organized by NRGI in partnership with the Advocates Coalition on Development and Environment (ACODE) and the Civil Society Coalition on Oil and Gas (CSCO), Paul Bagabo highlighted key priorities for the company's success. He emphasized that to effectively fulfill its mandate, the government must ensure: 1?? Clearly defined objectives to guide its operations and impact. 2?? A strong governance structure that promotes efficiency and transparency. 3?? A strategic vision aligned with Uganda's National Development Plan. 4?? Robust oversight and accountability mechanisms to prevent mismanagement and enhance public trust.
