Pioneering science, technology, and partnerships that enable people and nature to thrive.

关于我们

The Natural Capital Project aims to align economic forces with conservation. Based at Stanford University, we are an innovative partnership between The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, the University of Minnesota, Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. We develop tools that make it easy to incorporate natural capital into decisions, apply these tools in select places around the world, and engage leaders to transform decision making by taking up this approach.

??Happy #WorldWaterDay! Today we want to highlight our work with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through the People, Planet, Prosperity (3Ps) Project in the Philippines ???? and Sri Lanka ???? ?????? The Santo Tomas Watershed project in Zambales increased government capacity to assess and value nature’s benefits to people – specifically those related to water – as part of their watershed management planning. This included conducting a natural capital assessment using NatCap’s InVEST software suite. Specifically, the Nutrient Delivery Ratio, Sediment Delivery Ratio, and Seasonal Water Yield models were employed to map and measure water-related ecosystem services in the watershed. The project demonstrated to national and international decision-makers the importance of natural capital approaches for prioritizing investments in ecosystems. ?????? In the Mahaweli watershed in Sri Lanka, the project aimed to enhance watershed investment programs through natural capital approaches, supporting both water and energy security and sustainable livelihoods. The study set out to demonstrate how upstream land use in the Mahaweli Watershed can reduce soil loss and resulting sedimentation in downstream reservoirs, dams, and irrigation canals. The team also engaged local partners from government, academic institutions, and multilateral development banks (MDB) in training and capacity development, laying the groundwork for long-term mainstreaming of natural capital approaches in the country. • What do we need to measure essential capacity building for sustainability in a world facing complex and intertwined crises? The Building Capacity for Sustainable Development virtual seminar series at Harvard Kennedy School explores this critical question by bringing experts together to address major problems facing the planet. In a recent session, NatCap Executive Director Mary Ruckelshaus shared insights from her extensive work helping governments worldwide develop sustainability measurement and decision-making tools. • NatCap Chief Strategy Officer & Lead Scientist Anne Guerry helped launch the India Mangrove Coalition, a multi-faceted collaboration with the Godrej Family Foundation, WWF-India, WRI-India, Stanford, Conservation International, and several local NGOs. In Mumbai & Chennai, they conducted a training to empower the local team to use natural capital approaches and tools.
