关于我们
The Coalition for National Trauma Research is a non-profit organization formed in 2014 by leaders of America's preeminent trauma societies--AAST, ACS-COT, EAST, ABA and WTA. The coalition now comprises 24 core, stakeholder and affiliate member organizations that together represent 232,000 multi-disciplinary adult and pediatric trauma care professionals across the continuum of injury. With the support and participation of the national trauma community, CNTR manages funding for multidisciplinary, multi-site trauma research and builds research infrastructure to support investigators. Formerly called the National Trauma Institute, since 2006, CNTR has secured and/or managed nearly $100 million in research funding from a variety of sources including NIH, DoD, PCORI, AHRQ and industry. CNTR's growing toolkit of investigator resources includes a National Trauma Research Action Plan that prioritizes research gaps, a National Trauma Research Repository to enable clinical data sharing, an Injury Research Engagement Panel of patients and caregivers, geographic information systems expertise for studies with location and distance elements, and more.

Help advance an important initiative led by International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) to improve healthcare for individuals with major injuries! ICHOM is a non-profit organisation with a mission to support improvements in the quality of health and support services by encouraging providers to measure the treatment outcomes most important to people who access services. ICHOM is now developing a Set of Outcomes that matter most to people with lived experience of major injuries. A Working Group (WG) of experts—consisting of healthcare providers, researchers, and individuals with direct experience—has identified key outcomes for this initiative. Now, they need your voice! In her introductory remarks to the Design for Implementation: The Future of Trauma Research and Clinical Guidance Conference, Eileen Bulger, MD, ACS Medical Director of Trauma Programs, reminded attendees of the vast scope of the problem they were there to address. Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death worldwide, she said, claiming 5.8 million lives a year, or nine people every minute. The number of people left disabled following injury is exponentially higher. What’s more, in the U.S., deaths from traumatic injury have increased 11.9% year over year in the past decade. “It takes an average of 17 years for research findings to make their way into clinical practice,” said Dr. Bulger. But even then, a hospital may or may not have access to the research, and practitioners may or may not be able to find it in time to help the patient in front of them. “Last year we came to agreement on the problem, this year we’re beginning to design the solution,” added Lacey LaGrone, MD, MPH, FACS, conference PI. “We’re here to actively work together to align on problems, co-design solutions, delivered at pace.” On Day 1, speakers addressed the minimum viable product–a beta version of a clinical guidance application to be tested during the day–the importance of collaboration across professional societies that develop guidance, and frameworks for synthesizing evidence. Among the presenters were keynote speaker, Julie Ford, a survivor of violence; Dr. Simon Oczkowski, an associate professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster University; Dr. Kristin Staudenmayer, trauma surgeon at Stanford University; Dr. Jacob Tebes, Chief Psychologist at the Connecticut Mental Health Center; and many more clinicians and technologists. CNTR's taking the National Trauma Research Repository on the road! Visit us at upcoming Orthopedic Trauma Association and Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma meetings.
CNTR's Shows Up at the AAST Annual Meeting This Week The Coalition for National Trauma Research kept showing up during this past week's 83rd Annual Meeting of the American College of Surgeons in Las Vegas! Aside from our usual informational booth, where we educated attendees about our study management services and new investigator resources, CNTR featured prominently in several presentations and posters. Ariel Knight, MD, presented a poster about the work of the AAST Geriatric Committee to increase the skill level of geriatric care teams through the use of an educational video: "Can PowerPoint Save Lives? Assessment of Equity and Reach of Traditional Dissemination Channels in Geriatric Trauma Education -- A Mixed-Methods Study Using Digital Analytics." CNTR was acknowledged as a valuable partner who helped distribute the video to its membership and contribute to some improved knowledge translation of anticoagulation management in geriatric TBI.
