  • Women made up only 28.2% of the STEM workforce in 2024[1], and 33.3% is the global average percentage of female researchers[2]. ?? Closing the gender gap is a complex endeavor that requires a multi-faceted approach and a collective effort. Despite these ongoing efforts to achieve gender balance in STEM, women who aspire to enter this world, often face many obstacles, including hurtful stereotypes, lack of female role models, and unconscious bias in hiring and funding. Women in STEM are also less likely to progress in their careers and reach leadership positions, with only 29% of female senior STEM workers and 12% of female STEM Chief Executives.[1] Addressing this issue is critical to driving innovation in research, promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and contributing to economic growth. The STO has an explicit commitment to empower diverse minds to shape the future of global security through initiatives such as the #NATO STO Women & Girls in Science challenge 2025 (WGS25). The #WG25 aims to inspire young women up to 35 years old to pursue careers in STEM by providing a platform to share innovative research ideas with a real impact on global security and defence. Spread the word and help empower young women in STEM. The challenge is open until the 11 March and we encourage all women in STEM (including social scientists) to apply through the official WGS25 website: https://natostowgs.com/. #EveryVoiceInScience #WomenInSTEM #GirlsInSTEM [1]World Economic Forum, https://lnkd.in/eAawKNWG [2]UNESCO, https://lnkd.in/deiWnvHv
