Making known the world of water, both fresh and salt through #MarineEducation and #OceanLiteracy.
关于我们
National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) is a dedicated, influential member-based organization of classroom teachers, informal educators, university professors, scientists, and more from around the world working together to advance the understanding and protection of our freshwater and marine ecosystems. From scientists working in the deep sea to students studying underwater archeology in the Great Lakes, NMEA members are dedicated to making known the world of water, both fresh and salt. NMEA is a national organization powered by 17 individual, regional chapters who provide the on-the-ground efforts that support and promote national initiatives in education and conservation such as ocean literacy. NMEA has a 37 year history and hosts inspiring annual conferences in different locations across North America. NMEA has also recently inspired the creation of the European Marine Science Educators Association and collaborates regularly with similar associations based in Australia (MESA), Japan, and beyond.

NMEA has been an integral part of Ocean Literacy since its inception, and 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Ocean Literacy Guide. NMEA has been and continues to be a voice on the international stage in fostering a global culture of ocean stewardship. Ocean Literacy is a global phenomenon, underpinning many important international initiatives including the UN Ocean Decade. Please support the inclusion of Ocean Literacy in the upcoming Ocean Decade conference by signing this petition. https://lnkd.in/dT-tCm5Z We urge you to consider including the following paragraph in the UNOC3 Declaration under Art.24: “Commit to implementing initiatives that improve overall ocean literacy in educational frameworks and wider public awareness initiatives, emphasizing transdisciplinary, experiential and inclusive learning approaches that acknowledge scientific and traditional knowledge to address systemic challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable marine resource management, and to cultivate ocean stewardship across all sectors of society.”
