关于我们

Founded in 1825, the National Academy of Design promotes art and architecture in America through exhibition and instruction. As the leading honorary society for visual artists and architects in the United States, we advocate for the arts as a tool for education, celebrate the role of artists and architects in public life, and serve as a catalyst for cultural conversations that propel society forward. Our National Academician membership is a vibrant, intergenerational community of artists and architects from many backgrounds that honors the full diversity of practitioners in the United States. Across our varied creative practices, we are unified in our shared belief in the power of art and architecture. Through our individual work and collective initiatives, we support our communities, peers, and the next generation of creative thinkers. Each year, new National Academicians are inducted into our membership by current members. This honor cannot be applied for or solicited.

  • In the lead up to Groundhog Day this Sunday, we're admiring works in our collection from Giorgio Cavaglieri. Giorgio Cavaglieri pioneered the adaptive reuse of historic structures in the 1950s and served as president of the Municipal Art Society from 1963 to 1966. In October 4, 1971 he recieved his ANA diploma presentation. Cavaglieri is remembered for the Jefferson Market Library in Greenwich Village, which he restored in the mid-1960s.? Images:? • Pictured is Programs Assistant, Frank Dallas' favorite work from the collection. In their words, "These coded ink drawings- reminiscient of the punch cards used for the jacquard loom transform a built environment into a language spoken by early computing technology and the viewer. The level of abstraction seems to be describing Voisine's experience of the space rather than working to describe the location to the viewer."
