The Carson City freeway in Nevada was completed in 2005, leaving many slopes in need of revegetation. We wildland-collected, cleaned, and hydroseeded custom native blends of perennial grasses and shrubs to provide long-term soil stability with very low maintenance costs. Check out this same slope today-- thriving with perennial sage, wheatgrass, squirreltail bottlebrush, fourwing saltbush, buckwheat, palmer penstemon, yarrow, and blue flax. The amount of coordination, science & expertise that is going into native seed production at scale is incredible. This week I got to visit our Southern CA location S & S Seeds Inc. to meet with government & nonprofit agencies, then stopped by Hedgerow Farms outside Sacramento to check on our native wildflowers fields in bloom, then headed down to see the brand-new Pacific Coast Seed facilities in the bay area. Ended the week by attending a National Science Foundation-funded conservation genetics workshop with my coworker from Granite Seed who leads native seed collection in the Eastern Sierras. Feeling proud to be part of NativeSeed Group's efforts. Now time to catch up on some sleep!

Last week we spent three days at the National Native Seed Conference in Tuscon.
