关于我们
The leader in design, permitting, and installation of living shorelines in North Carolina, Native Shorelines staff have permitted and constructed over 5 miles of living shoreline. Living shorelines are an environmentally superior, durable and cost-effective solution for managing coastal erosion. They work with the natural habitat to mitigate the impacts of rising sea levels and natural disasters—while maintaining access to the water, and enabling landowners to fully enjoy the benefits of a coastal lifestyle now and well into the future Native Shorelines specializes in oyster shell bag and QuickReef shorelines, but we also provide design, permitting, and installation assistance on other living shoreline types as well. Our proprietary QuickReef living shoreline system, is a unique living shoreline structure that’s made primarily of native coastal materials, including limestone marl and oyster shells. The easy-to-install units are arranged in shallow water just off the coastline, where they absorb wave energy, protect the marsh behind them, and create an ideal aquatic environment for oyster growth. Because of its effectiveness in shallow waters and resemblance to natural shoreline, QuickReef is unmatched among living shoreline options.

Hard to be stressed when your morning view is sunrise, still water, and a growing reef. #quickreef #oysters #livingshorelines #natirebasedsolutions

Happy oysters, happy marshes, happy landowners! Check out this #oyster our client pulled off his 20-month old #QuickReef living shoreline this weekend in Brunswick County, NC along the ICW!

Nothing like a beautiful end to another beautiful reef project! 270 LF of #QuickReef Defender sill installed over 2 days on a private property in Beaufort, NC to prevent erosion AND provide habitat with the same or better wave energy reduction than granite would have. #livingshorelines #coastalresiliency

We intuitively and qualitatively know that #QuickReef #livingshorelines increase intertidal habitat and attenuate wave energy. This is enough for some projects, but we know it is not enough for all. So in late 2023, we embarked on a year-long study to quantitatively test our various QuickReef? configurations. We are pleased to share the 2024 QuickReef Testing Report prepared by Bret Webb, Ph.D., P.E., BC.CE at the University of South Alabama presenting the results of the physical testing study designed by Whitney C. Thompson, P.E., Chris Paul, and John Darnall of Southern Shores Engineering, LLC. Over 300 wave cases were tested at the University of South Alabama wave flume on QuickReef? configurations and that data has also been used to inform and calibrate FLOW3D computational fluid dynamic models. We believe QuickReef? is one of the few, if not the only, alternative living shoreline material on the market to undergo this level of testing and to publicly share the data. The results are clear: In wave flume testing, wave reflection coefficients across all QuickReef? products were typically equivalent to or much less than values often attributed to rubble mound structures. All designs tested performed well, maintaining 50% or less wave energy transmission under design conditions. Further, accelerometer monitoring showed that testing configurations were mostly unable to motivate significant movement of the QuickReef? panels.
