We protect and restore Texas native prairies and educate people about their beauty and benefits.
关于我们
The mission of the Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) is to conserve and restore native prairies and educate Texans about their remarkable benefits. Grasslands are the most endangered habitat on Earth. Of the 26.5 million acres of tallgrass and coastal prairies in Texas that existed prior to European settlement, less than 1% remains. We collaborate with landowners to encourage prairie conservation and restoration. We enlighten students, teachers, and community leaders about the beauty and benefits of native prairies. This comes to life through outreach, field trips, workshops, webcasts, videos, volunteer projects, and youth education programs. Texas prairies provide a variety of social, environmental, and economic benefits: surprising plant and animal diversity, natural beauty, rich soil, water filtration, flood mitigation, hunting and birding recreation, healthy livestock forage, and more reliable carbon storage than forests. They are part of our state's heritage, and we need to save them. NPAT is a nonprofit membership organization and accredited land trust, founded in 1986 by a group of Texans concerned about our disappearing prairie heritage, especially endangered tallgrass prairies. We protect over 6,500 acres of this rare ecosystem through acquisition, partnerships, and conservation easements. Our holdings include 11 owned properties and 19 permanently protected prairies through voluntary agreements with private landowners.

Prairies matter—even in places where you don’t see them. What brings this to mind? The birds. Birds are incredible travelers. Some of the ones spotted in the desert even depend on prairie habitats during other parts of their lives. They rely on the food, shelter, and space that healthy prairies provide. Without prairies, their survival becomes a lot harder. It’s not JUST about birds, though. Prairies play a huge role in keeping our ecosystem balanced. They help clean and store water, reduce flooding, and provide homes for so many plants and animals. Their deep-root systems hold soil in place, and even capture carbon. You don't have to be standing on a prairie for their impact to reach you. Prairies support pollinators like bees and butterflies that keep crops and wild plants growing. They’re also a piece of history, connecting us to the landscapes that shaped this region and the people who have lived here for generations. This is a reminder that conservation isn’t just about saving one place—it’s about supporting the connections that keep everything working together. Protecting prairies helps create a healthier environment for all of us, no matter where we are. ?? Through the rest of the year, all donations will be matched. Let's keep Texas prairie! https://lnkd.in/gEWhn-6T ?? Sean Fitzgerald

Texas prairies are more than just open spaces—they’re vibrant ecosystems filled with life, history, and possibility. From the chirp of the bobwhite quail to the flutter of a butterfly, these lands tell stories of resilience and connection. But today, those stories are at risk of being silenced by urban sprawl and habitat loss. This season, your support can make all the difference. By giving today, you’re not just donating—you’re preserving memories, creating opportunities for wildlife to flourish, and fostering a deeper connection between people and nature. There’s never been a better time to give. Thanks to a generous matching gift opportunity, every dollar you donate by December 31st will be doubled, up to $10,000! Together, we can make an impact. With your help, we will continue our mission to save Texas’ prairies—one acre, one partnership, and one community at a time. Donate now to protect these lands for generations to come.?? https://lnkd.in/gFJMKv5B

We are excited to announce that native plants are now available at H-E-B stores across Texas through the Pollinators & Prairies program! This collaboration of conservation partners led by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation is possible thanks to presenting sponsor H-E-B and supporting sponsor Phillips 66. NPAT is proud to be a founding partner. The program is dedicated to increasing healthy prairie habitat and pollinator populations across the state. What an incredible evening with our Fort Worth Chapter at Tandy Hills! Thanks to our wonderful partners: City of Fort Worth Parks, Texas Parks & Wildlife DFW Urban Wildlife, & Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area. We also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the Fort Worth Astronomical Society. Together, we explored the mesmerizing world of moths using light traps to examine these beautiful creatures up close, learning about their incredible diversity and life habits. The data collected contributes to ongoing prairie restoration, linking vegetation surveys and privet removal to invertebrate species diversity. As the night sky unfolded, we took a moment to gaze at Saturn through large telescopes, making the evening even more magical. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a night of mothing, nature banter, and stargazing. ???? You find all of our upcoming events on our statewide calendar: https://lnkd.in/gcPV_BqK
