The University of Arizona's Land-Grant Project, lead by UC Faculty Affiliate Robert A. Williams Jr. (Lumbee), is bringing to light the history of land grabs and the University of Arizona's role in the process. By creating an authoritative source the hope is that: 1?? - we better understand how the University of Arizona has been enriched from the dispossession of Native nations' land in Arizona; and, 2?? - it may serve as a launching pad for further investigation, ground-breaking research, and original scholarship. ?? 2.9 M acres of Indigenous territory is still owned and profited off of by states through leases... and the Indigenous Peoples whose land this is on still have to pay to use it. Tony Incashola Jr., Director of Tribal Resources with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and other Indigenous communities are fighting back barriers to have unfettered access to all of their ancestral land and reintroducing their ecological wisdom to these areas.
