?? Remember Sean?! When Sean began complaining of severe migraines in the spring of 2023, he was brought to Nationwide Children’s to undergo an MRI to explore the source. Results revealed Sean had a brain tumor called a non-germinomatous germ cell tumor (NGGCT). After surgery and chemotherapy, MRIs showed the tumor was gone! Sean finished radiation, the last stage of his treatment, in early January 2024. Since then, he has had quarterly MRIs that all show no recurrence of the brain tumor. Now in fifth grade, Sean has some lingering effects of the surgery with his vision, but he has adapted and is an avid reader! He also joined a soccer team this fall! Read Sean's incredible story and help 'Light Up the Lawn' and light up the lives of patients like him this holiday season ?? https://bit.ly/3V6Qgq6. #LightUpNCH ?

“As a parent, to imagine what these parents are going through, I feel like we make a horrible situation a little better. We’ve had patients that have been given terminal diagnoses and have been able to say, ‘I just want to go home. I want to smell the smell of my mom cooking in the kitchen. I want to play with my dog. I want my mom to lay down in the bed next to me and stroke my hair.’ There is a little bit of a taboo, talking about the kids that don’t win the race or lose the battle or whatever those phrases are that we hate so much on this team. Because if you die, you didn’t lose a battle. You didn’t lose a race. It was just your time. There is such a thing as a good death. Our team works to make it as lovely as we can.” - Laura, Manager, Hospice and Palliative Care #HospiceAndPalliativeCareMonth

?? Remember Livi?! When Olivia, “Livi”, made her entrance into the world at 2:58 am on June 24, 2018, it was only a few hours later that doctors were telling her parents that she had several markers for Down syndrome. Upon confirmation of the diagnosis, Livi's journey with the incredible team here at Nationwide Children's began. Since we last shared her story, Livi has had another ear-tube surgery that has improved her hearing. She started kindergarten where she is loving making new friends! Livi also continues to love dancing and trips to her favorite place: Cedar Point. Read Livi's incredible story and help 'Light Up the Lawn' and light up the lives of patients like her this holiday season ?? https://bit.ly/4fUmzjS. #LightUpNCH

?? Meet Rosemary! Born with cerebral palsy, two years ago she underwent a procedure called selective dorsal rhizotomy or SDR. SDR can help children with spasticity to improve mobility, reduce pain and relieve lower-limb muscle spasticity. ??Rosemary dreams of becoming a cheerleader! Thanks to SDR, she's learning new moves and came to her follow-up appointment ready to teach her surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Leonard, a thing or two. Watch as she challenges him to a jump contest and teaches him her favorite cheer moves. Find out if SDR is right for your child: https://bit.ly/3I5HuSt.
