New research from Moms First and McKinsey & Company reveals that only 2 in 5 eligible parents accessed state paid leave in 2022. Read more.
?? New research is out! ?? We teamed up with McKinsey & Company to find out how paid leave is working in the U.S.—and what we found is eye-opening. Although state paid leave is a popular benefit, it's badly underutilized, with only 2 in 5 eligible parents accessing it in 2022. These parents leave real money on the table. The benefit is worth $6,000-10,000 per parent that does not take leave—an amount that could cover a full year of future child care for many families. It’s time to unlock the full potential of paid leave. Download the full report now: https://lnkd.in/eUrXx8Pa

Women remain underrepresented in AI and cybersecurity, but organizations like Czechitas and the Kyndryl Foundation are recoding the future. Bridging divides—whether related to gender, skills, or opportunity—requires a global effort. Czechitas equips women in the Czech Republic with the training and support needed to break into high-demand tech fields. Now through the Kyndryl Foundation’s partnership, these efforts are scaling, empowering more women to contribute, innovate, and lead in AI and cybersecurity. In this piece, Senta Cermakova, CEO of Czechitas, and Monoswita Saha, Director of Social Impact at the Kyndryl Foundation, share how they're closing the technology gap and building a more inclusive future of work. https://lnkd.in/eUDkxnBQ

Today, we released our inaugural State of Young People report—a collaborative effort among leaders from over 50 Alliance Community member organizations and a nationally representative sample of more than 1,500 young people.?? ? The state of the world in which young people are coming of age today is marked by unique opportunities and significant challenges. This member-engaged, youth-centered annual research initiative seeks to explore the ways in which deeper knowledge of young people's experiences and proposed solutions to common challenges can meaningfully inform the work of the many organizations and institutions that serve them. ? ? Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we highlight more of our key findings from our 2024 research, spotlight Alliance member organizations who are deep in the day-to-day work of supporting young people through this unprecedented time, and share updates about some of the multi-org collaborations we’re launching as we put these new insights into action.? Are employees alright? The data suggests they might not be. NationSwell is fielding a very short (1-2 minute) + anonymous pulse survey to better understand the current moment for employee engagement; I invite you to respond here and I’ll post findings if we get enough data: https://lnkd.in/e_A9P_Ua Here’s what I’m already tracking: ?? Employee engagement is at a 10-year low—only 31% of U.S. employees were engaged at work in 2024 (Gallup). ?? Trust in leadership is declining—Only 51% of employees globally have a high degree of trust in their CEOs (Edelman). ?? RTO tensions are escalating—While nearly 80% of CEOs anticipate a shift back to in-office work over the next 3 years (KPMG), 84% of employees say workplace flexibility is critical, and nearly 6 in 10 would trade a salary raise to keep it (Charles Schwab). ??? AI is fueling uncertainty—Almost 60% of employees worry about job security due to automation or lack of training (Edelman). We also know that purpose fuels engagement—72% of employees say impact is a strong expectation or dealbreaker when considering a job (Edelman). So what can impact leaders do right now? ?? Make the case for internal transparency. Even when making unpopular decisions, leaders should prioritize open dialogue, regular updates on major company actions, and visible follow-through on employee concerns to broker trust and boost credibility. ?? Defend purpose-oriented engagement infrastructure. ERGs, volunteer programs, mentorship opportunities, and related initiatives support retention and engagement—cutting them will cost companies more in the long run. ?? Partner with HR on workforce development. Skilling programs, AI literacy initiatives, and equitable career pathways help employees see a future for themselves in the organization. Impact + talent leaders need to lock arms on this. ?? Invest in making work purposeful—regardless of setting. Whether remote, hybrid, or in-office, employees want to feel connected to a larger mission. Shared value strategies that align social impact with business goals can help meet that need. cc Virginia Tenpenny, Lauren Bernstein, Liesl Schnabel, Allie Mahler, P.K.
