Well done to our exec member Jonathan Solé-Bradshaw for delivering a great presentation on allyship and championing women in policing and for all the work you do to support National Women of Colour in Policing. #Allyship #IWD2025
? International Women’s Day 2025 ? I was so humbled to be invited by City of London Police Network of Women to talk about the importance of proactive allyship, championing women in policing with a strong focus on intersectionality too - highlighting the work of National Women of Colour in Policing and my role on the exec. It was such an empowering and uplifting atmosphere. I always start with talking about my Mum - the challenges she successfully navigated as a single Black woman raising 2 young boys in London and the values she instilled in me. I reached out to inspiring women I know in policing who I’ve learnt so much from and imparted their messages about the importance of allyship too: Dr Alison Heydari PhD, Susan Ross, Fiona Shaik Umar, Charmain Brenyah, Carly Humphreys Mst Cantab, Nicki Addison. Women from different forces, of different ranks/grades and walks of life - all equally important, inspiring and united. In my talk I highlighted how every single person can play a role in creating inclusive workplaces that celebrate diversity, the power of being an active bystander - stepping up, speaking out, leaning into sometimes uncomfortable conversations and supporting those who face inequities. For policing, this leads to better more cohesive working environments and service to our diverse communities. I shared Fiona Shaik Umar’s powerful words: “Change starts with awareness, and awareness begins when we are brave enough to speak out. Let's keep talking about it, confronting it, advocating and educating so we can pave the way for the generations behind us…” Privileged to share the mic with other inspiring people ?? #2025 HerVoiceMatters Please find attached the poster/invite to join WoCiPBCH on a free global seminar hosted by the IPA and IBZ Gimborn. We are honoured to engage with Sweden leading this work, which we are involved in hosting with special guest Detective Chief Superintendent Tanya Wilkins. “This seminar provides valuable insights into how we can uplift and support women of colour in law enforcement, from officers to volunteers, both current and retired. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by women from diverse backgrounds and how to foster an inclusive workplace that promotes policing as a rewarding career path.” #SheIsIPA This project is to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace to raise awareness of existing barriers and stereotypes, working together to eliminate them. It also reflects the role and contribution of women in the IPA. Samantha Alexander Latoyah Henry Mariapaola Martinens Rebecca Tipping Audrey Campbell Tanya Wilkins Karen Duckworth MSc May-Britt V. R. Speaking at the recent Senior Women In Policing conference, Vanisha Mistry (Bhogal) Mistry, Chair of the National Women of Colour in Policing (NWoCiP) group, has called on police leaders to address the barriers which prevent career progression for women of colour in the service, and to invest in the pipeline of future leaders, as Policing Insight’s Sarah Gibbons reports. ?We have more than 3,000 ethnic minority female constables, and that is an amazing number. But when you contextualise that, there are nearly 120,000 PCs throughout the entire country – 3,000 doesn’t even touch the sides.? - Vanisha Mistry, Chair, NWoCiP ?There are a number of barriers and perceived barriers faced by women of colour in policing, and the cumulative effect of these can have a significant impact on them.? - Vanisha Mistry, Chair, NWoCiP ?Do you ask honest questions as to why policing doesn’t have many senior women of colour? Is there diversity of thought in your leadership team? Are process fair and transparent and inclusive of all?? - Vanisha Mistry, Chair, NWoCiP ?If you are a woman of colour reading this piece, remind yourself that you are here for a reason, you have skills, experience and knowledge, and you are needed in policing. Use your voice, take personal accountability and rise.? - Vanisha Mistry, Chair, NWoCiP [SUBSCRIBER ARTICLE] https://lnkd.in/ecsQU35K #lawenforcement #policing #police #diversityandinclusion
