Another group we're thankful for is NHD alumni! In celebration of our alumni, meet our Alum of the Month: Cory Blankenship. Cory participated in NHD in NC in the late 1990s and early 2000s, competing in both the exhibit and documentary categories. Cory is now the Executive Director of NAFOA which supports Native tribal economies. When reflecting on his time participating in NHD, Cory said, "I always tried incorporating my history and heritage as a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians into my History Day project. No matter the theme, I always chose to highlight the history of my people. I enjoyed learning more about the history of the Cherokee People and sharing that knowledge with others." #NHD50

"Andrew Abeyounis, a Grafton High School history teacher, has been selected by National History Day to research stories of Korean War veterans. Abeyounis has chosen to research U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Raymond Nevarro Armstead and U.S. Marine Corps Private First Class Angel Luis Rivera." #NHD50 #SilentHeroes

They were invited to an exclusive celebration of The Library of Congress Lavine/Ken Burns Prize for Film in honor of their excellence in student documentary filmmaking. #NHD50
