"The students learned that the Veterans are not just names in a history book. 'We learned how meaningful it is that each person in history actually has their own story and timeline and family.'" #NHDSilentHeroes

Working to improve the teaching and learning of history since 1974
关于我们
NHD is a non-profit education organization in College Park, MD. Established in 1974, NHD offers year-long academic programs that engage over half a million middle- and high-school students around the world annually in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. These research-based projects are entered into contests at the local and affiliate levels, where the top student projects have the opportunity to advance to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park. NHD also seeks to improve the quality of history education by providing professional development opportunities and curriculum materials for educators. NHD is sponsored in part by Kenneth E. Behring, Patricia Behring, HISTORY?, Jostens, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Park Service, Southwest Airlines, Weider History Group, Inc., and the WEM 2000 Foundation of the Dorsey & Whitney Foundation. "National History Day goes beyond competition. It pushes [students] to think critically, conduct in-depth research and present their findings in meaningful ways. In a world where critical consumption and analysis of information is increasingly difficult, these students stand apart." #NHD51

"National History Day Adviser Mrs. Sierra Dolce said it is students like this, researching unwritten stories like these, that should remind us just how important history is in cultivating empathy and understanding our sense of identity within this world." #SilentHeroes #KoreanWar #History #Research #SocialStudies

It's time to celebrate another #NHDAlum: Former exhibit competitor Leslie Madrigal is now pursuing a Master's degree in Heritage Conservation at the University of Southern California. She also co-coaches the National History Day team at her high school. Leslie's advice for current NHD students? "National History Day is public history, don't be afraid to connect with scholars, historians, people and incorporate them into your work. I credit National History Day for all my passions in preserving our stories."

From NHD exhibit to museum exhibit: New Mexico History Day students Hannah and Elena's 2024 exhibit is currently on display at the New Mexico History Museum. Their research examined the El Paso Gas Baths and how Mexican agricultural workers who came to the U.S. legally in the early 20th century were subjected to gas baths as they came into the U.S. Congratulations to these outstanding students on such an exciting honor! If you live near Santa Fe, be sure to check out their exhibit. #NHD51 #History #SocialStudies #Museums #Exhibit #ProjectBasedLearning #Education
