As we reflect on this election and its outcomes, we recognize that for many, there is a sense of disappointment in seeing another opportunity for a woman to lead our nation deferred. Yet, the story of women in America has always been one of resilience, courage, and determination. ?? Closing Out Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month Honoring the Legacy of Celia Cruz and Celebrating Representation ?? I recently had the privilege of attending the event "Historic Change: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Celia Cruz" at Lehman College, and it was an experience that filled my heart with joy and deep pride. The launch of the new quarter in Celia Cruz’s honor was not only a tribute to the Queen of Salsa but also a reminder of the power of representation. Seeing so many people on stage who looked like me, and seeing other Afro-Latinas shining in spaces where we aren’t always represented, was truly moving. It reminded me of why it matters that we continue to uplift our stories, our culture, and our legacies. The performances by the students from the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music and the heartfelt words from all the incredible speakers made this event so much more than a celebration—it was a moment of empowerment. As Afro-Latinas, we need more of these moments that reflect our brilliance, and this was a shining example of that. A special shoutout to my Chief peer and fellow core group member, Jennifer Herrera at the National Women's History Museum who was instrumental in organizing this incredible event. It was SO good to finally meet her in person—big hugs and all! ?? Jennifer, thank you for your work in making sure this celebration happened and for being such a force for change. Here’s to continuing to make space for our voices and honoring those who paved the way like Celia Cruz. #RepresentationMatters #AfroLatinaPride #CeliaCruz #HistoricChange #LatinaLeadership #WomenWhoLead #IAmChief #Inspiration #HispanicHeritageMonth
